The extra WWW URLs listed above are only for file access; web viewing and voting still starts on www.irtc.org as always. Ftp access for older rounds is now available through archive.irtc.org. For the MS-Windows users among the voters, check out Bob Franke's WinVote voting assistance program. Details and downloads are available at his site, "http://www.halcyon.com/wordsltd/pov/test.htm". The files it needs are in a subdirectory called "winvote" in the main ftp area. There were 158 entries accepted for voting. If you prefer to download large bundles, they are available in the directory named "zipped-up", under the name "images-*.zip" for the images, and "all-text.zip" for the text. This round's voting interval is 15 days; votes will be accepted from November 1 through November 15. Winners will be announced November 16. The November-December 1998 round of the IRTC is now open. The topic for this round is "First Encounter". You may begin submitting for this round immediately; entries will be accepted through December 31, 1998. ==== NOTE ==== NOTE ==== NOTE ==== NOTE ==== NOTE ==== NOTE ==== You screamed, we listened. After reading the extensive discussion on the IRTC-L mailing list about the topic of "Horror", the IRTC admin team has decided to alter our normal process for a special one-time event. This is to announce the topic of the September-October 1999 (yes, that's 199*9*) Internet Ray Tracing Competition: Horror. This is a special year-long round, announced on October 31, 1998, which relaxes the following two IRTC rules: 1. The topic is announced a year (well, ten months) in advance. 2. You may begin working on your entry immediately. Note that in all other respects, this will be a normal round. We will begin accepting submissions for the Horror round on September 1, 1999, as usual. Please DO NOT submit your Horror entry until then--it will likely be lost. All other rules concerning legality of images, submissions, judging, and so forth will be the same as always. This is only an advance notice of the topic of an upcoming round, and permission to begin building your entry for it. Other rounds are not affected by this advance notice. We have included a section on our Topic web page describing this topic, in addition to the topic for the November-December 1998 round as usual. We ask that you keep your images within the bounds of reasonable good taste and legality as defined by the laws of the server's host country, the USA. Otherwise, have fun and express yourself. So grab your fright wig and release your imagination, and prepare your most horrific image! -- The IRTC Admin team
