TITLE: Four Seasons NAME: Martin Magnusson COUNTRY: Sweden EMAIL: Martin.Magnusson.7121@student.uu.se WEBPAGE: http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/9946/ TOPIC: Metamorphosis COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. MPGFILE: 4seasons.mpg ZIPFILE: 4seasons.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3 TOOLS USED: CMPEG for MPEG compression, Adobe Photoshop for creating the height field for the hill and orb-cyl for making the stone. RENDER TIME: It was rendered in many bits and pieces, so it's hard to tell the rendering time exactly. MPEG conversion took 770 seconds. HARDWARE USED: Five Sun computers. I know that one of them is a Sun Ultra 1, and that all of them are faster than my P120. ANIMATION DESCRIPTION: A tree on a hill going through different phases as time passes by. VIEWING RECOMMENDATIONS: I think it will look best if viewed on a dark background. NUMBER OF FRAMES: 350 DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: The tree is built from loads of cones and spheres seamed together pretty randomly. I guess I should have used an L-parser algorithm, but I didn't really think of that before I had already modeled a decent-looking tree my own way. Some other interesting (well...) facts: the leaves are torii intersections, the hill and the stone are height fields, the snow flakes are discs, the sky is made of two planes with two cloud textures with different amount of turbulence. Luckily I didn't have to render it on my own machine - the parsing alone would have taken over 12 hours.
