===== From jasondinger@hotmail.com: an awful lot of "extra" programs used for such a short animation (and one that has so little animated in it). the exploding ball was too slow; not very realistic. I did like the blinking "beer" sign, not for the sake of what it said, but for how realistic it looked.. ===== From clem@dhol.com: Big mistake putting the (minimal) action so far from the viewpoint. When action is small and local you need to emphasize it, not trivialize it as the distant and offset view did. The fluorescent lights are well done. So were the fades, although they took up too much of the bandwidth you used and didn't really fit your subject. For me, the beer sign with the nice lighting effects stole the show. Great job on that. I know it is hard with a Poser person, but if someone is hitting something that hard, he should show some facial expression. A gimlet stare, a vicious snarl, bite through a cigar etc. The scene would also have had more balance, action and interest if you involved the rack of balls itself. Say, he shoots the ball, it flies across the table and *all* of the balls shatter when it hits the rack, flying all over the room in little pieces. meanwhile, the cue stick digs a large and ugly divot in the table. Finally. the 8 ball (the sole survivor) descends from the rafters and bounce off of the head of the unfortunate player, knocking him out and bouncing up to shatter the lights and cause the scene to go black except for the beer sign. Sorry, got carried away. The Poser guy also needs some hair or other individualizing features. ===== From djconnel@flash.net: This one has a lot of potential!!! The scene is nicely constructed... the table is well rendered, you make good use of camera position, the overhead lights are nicely done, and the "Beer" sign is a nice touch. It does have the "test render" look to it, though -- it's too bad you didn't have more time to do more with this. Dan ===== From Martin.Magnusson.7121@student.uu.se: Very, very good-looking. It is pretty slow, but the modelling and lights and all are very well done. Bravo. ===== From gregj56590@aol.com: Really nice details. Might have been a better stills image. A disappointing lack of action, though. Couldn't you have put hair on the Poser figure? ===== From PovRayGuy@aol.com: Looks like a test render. Not bad, would like to to see the final animation. ===== From Alain.Culos@bigfoot.com: I really like the lighting of the scene and the flashing sign. I enventually could view the mpeg (my Windows95 active movie player would not play it) with some freeware available at www.mpeg.org (mpeg2ply), although I guess this freeware does not do a great job of synchronisation, so I may not have viewed the file at the frame rate intended. What I saw was a slowish motion of a ball breaking up, very little about the cause of it breaking up. Maybe the view was not dramatic enough, the effect is interesting but some more movement (camera movement maybe) and getting closer to the focal point at the right time would have helped make this a much better animation. Pools are not too original indeed, but the variation is nice. ===== From bill@apocalypse.org: Very nice looking scene, but too short! ...and I wish we had a closer shot of the ball exploding. ===== From r@pa-ppp31.hevanet.com: I liked the blinking 'open' sign, and the way the fragments of the ball fell. Notable for lighting ===== From r@proxy.cowan.edu.au: A bit short, nice fading but all too fast. Camera movement would have been good, zooming in on the broken ball Notable for lighting ===== From r@207-172-73-182.s182.tnt1.man.erols.com: MicroSuck ActiveMovie couldn't read your file, so I had no way to judge it. ===== From r@kol44.kauhajoki.fi: Looks all right, but the animation is not worth the download and the idea is a cliche. Notable for lighting, textures
