EMAIL: black.cat@t-online.de NAME: Christof Joswig TOPIC: Games COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. TITLE: Dominoes Game COUNTRY: Germany (Cottbus [in the near of Berlin ]) WEBPAGE: - RENDERER USED: only POV-Ray 3.01(Povray 3.02 have an error in Win98 while rendering) TOOLS USED: PSP5,Build Movie from Images (Soft FX Packet),Digigami MPEG Encoder 1,ACDSEE CREATION TIME: more than 300 hours HARDWARE USED: 7*Pentium & 1*Pentium II (2*100Mhz,1*133Mhz,1*166Mhz,2*200Mhz,1*233Mhz,1*350Mhz); 374MB Ram; 33GB HardDisk VIEWING RECOMMENDATIONS: Please don't use 3Mb mpeg file. Use the mpeg file that is included in the source code. This is not a trick. The quality of the contest file is really bad, because of high compressing. You can't see little details, like the ball rotating or the glass pane behind the button. This nice little details used so many rendertime and it's a pitty when you can't see it, you know. The source code file is 9.65MB big. The mpeg file in the file is 9Mb and the source code is 1.2Mb uncompressed. I suppose it's better to use a mpeg player and a graphic card that support an overlay with YuV filters. ANIMATION DESCRIPTION: Something about CJ-Soft: We are five young boys (between 16 and 17 years) that come from Cottbus (in the near of Berlin) in Germany. The Team: Christof Joswig head of the crew (Modeling,Raytracing and notions) Martin Held (Bug Reporting, Rendern, tips ) Stephan Kolosche (Support, Internet things, ideas, comments) Christian Schiemenz (writing the texts, ideas, tips and comments) Stefan Schneider (replace Stephan Kolosche in this ani) We go to school and make the a-level in the 11th class. I(Christof Joswig) began with raytracing 3 years ago. But I modeling intense one year ago. And this is my first movie for a contest. It's 1min long and it was hard to created it. More about the description in the following section. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: I heard five weeks before the contest ends that the new theme is Games and I had the idea to join the contest. I have saw in mid-summer the world record of falling dominoes. And on the rear of the stones was a nice picture. Yes that was the main idea. I chose the Pov-Man as a picture and began with modeling. First, the logo with atmosphere and lens flare. Then followed the text with the O that is connected with a pipe and 2 ventilators. I used an atmosphere that only have one sample, because of rendring speed and it looks better, because rays will don't be curved at edges. The fans rotate and this take care for a nice effect that you can see often in movies. The first ventilator rotates around 360 grad per clock unit and the second ventilator 720 grad. Okay when the camera finish the pipe it fly in the room. The ball fall down and make an wave in the y direction. The ball touch the first domino stone and a chain reaction followed. All dominoes fall down and the last will touch the seesaw. It lift an block with a sphere on the top. The sphere jump on the rail and role at the button that starts a countdown of a bomb. The camera fly around the plant and a car drive away. The car crash a wall and explode with round particles. In the following the bombcounter ticking away and the camera will flee but the schock wave will push it to the wall and the film ends. This film is connected with the contest in the following. Dominoes was in my childhood very interresting game (exspecialy the chain reaction) and it improve the skill. Yes that was all about it and special thanks to Thomas Schmidt (www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/bitmap/71/index.html) for the plant Francis Wu (benway@aei.ca;www.geocities.com/siliconvally/heights/3381) for Roadkill that we can't use because of a long rendring time (don't use so mutch merge use union this improve the rendering time up to 20% and I can't see any differences) The car that I used is from the IRTC CD-ROM. The rest is from me !!! I hope you enjoy this movie. CJ Comment: Sorry for my bad english. I'm from Germany and my english is not very well. And the idea of dominoes is not from the animation of the last contest. I saw this animation 5 days before the contest end. And my ani was completed. This is the reason why I send the ani to the contest.(I had doubts through thids fact)
