===== From agage@csee.usf.edu: The landscape, dust, and cavern are all quite good. The motion on the camera and the speeders does seem a little abrupt in spots, however. The motion blur seems to have worked out pretty well. ===== From davew@sheaarch.com: Get your own idea. ===== From vansickl@erols.com: Some of the animation was jerky, but other than that, this rocked. I won't mind losing to this one, either. (vansickl@erols.com) ===== From Martin.Magnusson.7121@student.uu.se: Very good-looking, as usual with your animations! Great light, good models... The camera movement is a tiny bit jerky though, and I find the lens flares a bit distracting. Tehy don't look as real as the rest of the animation. ===== From clem@dhol.com: Very, very good backgrounds. The motion blur is a good trick, but I don't think it really helps this animation. In any case, blurs (motion or focal) and lossy compression (i.e. mpeg) aren't a very good fit in my opinion. The motion itself was smooth and competent but the animation itself was, well, kind of dull. I think that stems partly from the lack of sound, which enhances real races considerably, and mainly from the uniform and impersonal nature of the racers. That is to say that they all look alike and there is no way (or motivation) to pick one to follow and root for. The use of copyright material really bothers me too. "Fan art" *is* an infringement and no, profit or not doesn't matter. Personally I have no use for the whole idea of copyright, but I don't want to see the IRTC get burned for a contestant's infringement. It could happen and it could potentially destroy the whole thing. This animation shows great technical skill and the backgrounds show considerable artistry, but a few more storytelling touches and more original subject matter would lift it to the next level. ===== From gregj56590@aol.com: Breathtaking! Wonderful feel of construction, looks like we are really seeing live action, and I'm not just talking about the motion blur! I'm more impressed with the motion. I assume you avoided collision with the "trace" function. ===== From ianshumsky@hotmail.com: I really enjoyed this movie, even though it felt a little off topic. There is a real sense of speed and scale to this animation, helped by your motion blur technique. I would have liked to see the camera follow the action at some point as well as leading, but, hey, you can't have everything.
