TITLE: SuperCube NAME: Brian Hands COUNTRY: UK EMAIL: brian@handsb.freeserve.co.uk WEBPAGE: N/A TOPIC: Gadgets and Odd Devices COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. MPGFILE: scube.mpg ZIPFILE: scube.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray for Windows V3.1a TOOLS USED: BMP2AVI, Paint Shop Pro V5 and CMPEG CREATION TIME: 12 hours HARDWARE USED: 120 MHz Pentium ANIMATION DESCRIPTION: This animation reveals a net of a cube which folds up into a box and then rotates ultimately showing all the faces. Each face has a number corresponding to the sequence found on dice. UK residents will be familiar with the design used for the four - it was Channel 4's original (and now no longer used) logo (Channel 4 is the UK's fourth terrestrial analogue broadcast TV station). VIEWING RECOMMENDATIONS: ActiveMovie for Windows 95/NT works but gets the frame rate wrong. XingMPEG Player V3.20 works with the correct frame rate and allows the animation to repeat. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: I created the frames using the standard animation support in Povray for Windows. The animation is built up from 8 separate phases (although the first and last do no more than increase and decrease the intensity of the lights illuminating the scene). Progress of the animation was periodically checked using BMP2AVI with the final MPEG file being produced using CMPEG. Paint Shop Pro was used to convert the rendered .TGA files from a compressed to an un-compressed format - this animation does not include any form of post processing.
