MPGFILE: bomb.mpg ZIPFILE: bomb.zip RENDERER USED: MegaPOV v0.2 TOOLS USED: BMP2AVI and AVI2MPG1 CREATION TIME: Uncertain, but at least 120hrs rendering time HARDWARE USED: P166MMX (Win95) PC with 64MB RAM ANIMATION DESCRIPTION: A key event in the forth Hinosten-Deltori war, showing the bombing of Muddyfish III by elements of a Hinosten assault group. After arriving in the system via hyperspace, the Hinosten fleet moves in towards the single inhabited planet in the Muddyfish system; they are engaged in orbit by some unprepared Deltori frigates and their corvette escorts. Major cities on the planet are then bombed from orbit by the surviving Hinosten ships, using fusion devices. BITS WRITTEN BY OTHER PEOPLE The nebulae backgrounds were all created using Chris Colefax's excellent Galaxy include file. I also used Chris' object exploder to destroy bits of the space ship objects. The appearance of the solar lens flare used in the animation was based on the 'headlight2' flare from Chris' LensFX (although the code was written from scratch). VIEWING RECOMMENDATIONS: Windows media player works OK. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: The animation was first planned out scene by scene - this plan was later altered at several points, but since the scenes were created one after the other, this did not involve too much re-rendering. Most scenes were 81 frames long, but the first one is double length (161 frames). The animation used the standard POV animation system (the clock variable :-). I used BMP2AVI on the rendered TGA files to preview the animation as I added each scene and checked the file size using an MPEG-1 codec. Finally, I BMP2AVI'd the finished animation using no compression, and used AVI2MPG1 to convert this to MPEG-1 format. I include source code, although it's a little confused. You'll need Chris Colefax's Galaxy and Object Exploder include files if you want to re-render all the scenes.
