===== From maal-irtc20030115@anthrosphinx.de: Really liked the idea. IMO, the "desert rolling" scene is simply too long... Nice take on some SF classics, the "MOnuMENT" reference is a bit too far-fetched. May have looked better if the letters would have been placed on something similar to the actual monument? ===== From Martin.Magnusson.7121@student.uu.se: I love the credits :D The scenes with photographic backdrops are good, too. Stuff that could be improved: The ball seems to rotate and slide, rather than roll. Especially in the scene after it's been beamed up into the saucer. Some of the textures could need some work -- the marble on the pool table gets washed out, and the sand and grass textures could need some more detail IMHO. ===== From javaearl@hotmail.com: You should have given credit to the credits, since they were in fact the best part. ===== From marlo.steed@uleth.ca: You provide too much exalanation of your animation - next time reduce and simplify. No one has the time to read this much information, no matter how good your animation is. Comments on your animation: overall I liked the idea In some cases I was hoping for a bit more speed since the backgrounds were simple there was no point in slowing the ball down. At certain points the spin of the ball seemed out of synch with the speed or the direction of the ball (I know that is difficult to perfect). Overall a bit more realism in the textures and details would have helpd, as would speeding up the entire process. ===== From evilsnack@hotmail.com: JV: mpeg_encode is putting something funny in your anim (or maybe it isn't recording the frame rate right). ===== From klynn@telefish.net: FYI. Windoze MediaPlayer 9.00 under XP had trouble playing your mpeg correctly. The QuickTime player handled it ok. ===== From tek@evilsuperbrain.com: Very simple style, but the ideas behind it are good. It could really use better compression settings though! There seems to be some inconsistency in the modelling, where some things like the star gate are modelled in a lot of detail, but then other things like the pool table seem far too simple. Also the movement of things seems a little odd at times (though some of that is the mpeg compression), e.g. there's a sudden jump just after the cueball hits the 8-ball at the start. Obviously you have the talent, but with an animation this long I guess you just didn't have time to do everything perfectly. It's still a good end result. ===== From maarten_hofman@hotmail.com: Indeed a "wow" experience. Unfortunately the mpeg encoding artifacts and other animation glitches reduced the experience, and I'm a bit disappointed about the recurring space theme, though it is less in this animation. ===== From pterandon@yahoo.com: Technically jerky and has several errors in how balls roll, no acceleration. Following ball down a winding hole is an overused cliche'. Some scenes (like white house landing) were actually quite cool and well carried out. Perhaps you should ahve stayed with one idea like that. ===== From jps6860@yahoo.com: Quite a journey. But shouldn't the tornado take the 8 ball to Oz not from it? :) I did have a few nits to pick. There are a few spots where the movement seems very choppy. Most notably in the in the desert after the 8 ball goes through the stargate and again when it's going down the spaceship hallway. Also the two players I tried reported the running time as 24 seconds, even though it did run much longer than that. I didn't deduct anything because of it, I just though it was kind of odd. Overall, I thought it was good and right on topic. ===== From clem@dhol.org: ??? Where is the animation you described in the text file? All I see is 10 megs of pointless intro and a brief still shot of a pool table. I have to grade what I see.
