transition ends and another begins; maybe a non-linear indexing of the

  Oh dear, more shiny shapes on checkered planes. Perhaps povray could
  be programmed to spot this and pop up a window saying "Are you sure?"
  Having said that, it does look good though.

  The evolution here seems to be going backwards. Perhaps it would make
  more sense to start with the sphere, then move to more mathematically 
  complicated shapes.
