===== From sshelby@shelbyvision.com: This is probably the most literal application of the theme of "the end". Very sinister. I like the warp tunnel. Also the way the orange glow gradually covers the earth. ===== From emperorofrome@yahoo.com: Very good planets, some of the vest i've seen ===== From rich@brickbots.com: I liked most everything about this animation. It was right on topic, if a bit predictable. There were two areas that I found distracting; only because the rest of the work was of such high (realistic) quality. Generic Note: I really enjoyed watching these animations, but I personally think that pointing out the low points of an animation help more than pointing out the high points. As such, I usually only mention the problems. Please don't take it the wrong way :-) Technical: The model of the ship was the first, the design itself was convincing and fairly realistic, but the textures could use some work. The sharp edges of the ship make is seem mechanical, so I would expect rectangular plates and surface features. The procedural texture looks more organic, and would fit better on a rounded organic alien ship. The second was the fracturing of the earth and moon. The pieces were very geometric and only composed the surface (and the entire surface. Just did not look quite right. You tried some challenging effects and for the most part made them look convincing. Artistry: Nothing particularly wrong with it, just a bit plain. I especially liked your use of camera vibration. It really helped sell the violence of the piece. Theme: As stated above it certainly fit the theme, but did not expand on it. Have questions about my comments? Rich at brickbots dot com ===== From evilsnack@hotmail.com: Artistically, about par for a space scene. Technically, a moderate challenge to model and animate. Concept: Average ===== From Markus.Altendorff@asamnet.de: A nice demo of 3DS max' abilities, but when it comes to the story, it felt a bit "hollow" all in all. It was like watching the "topical" effect scenes of Stargate, Babylon 5, Titan A.E. and the terraforming bomb from Star Trek II all rolled into one cinema trailer. Don't get me wrong, it's well done (camera shakes and all), but it feels like a remake... ===== From irtc_mail@yahoo.co.uk: This starts with a spectacular titles effect but you don't say how you made it so I have to assume it was a built-in package effect. Inside the tunnel, the asteriods are floating around and their motion does not seem to integrate with the motion through the tunnel. The scale of the planets makes Mars look only twice as far from the Earth as the Moon. The tunnel ride maintains the old sci-fi cliche that all aliens arrive from a direction which forces them to fly in the same plane as the planets orbit the sun, and that the planets happen to be aligned, thus creating a journey which passes each of the planets on the way in. It looks like the ship stops by using it's rear engines. The glowing fireball seems to be casting a shadow on the surface rather than illuminating it. When the Earth breaks up, the pieces are disappointingly regular and crystal like, and when the moon breaks up, it seems to be a hollow shell. The whole destruction sequence reminds me of the beginning of Titan AE with the angular ship design, the beam, the camera moving around the Earth to follow the spread of the heat wave, the Earth explosion and the shrapnel hitting and destroying the Moon. We are not given any context for the action here: who, what, why? With no story, you are relying on the FX to carry the piece, but I found the destruction FX disappointing compared to the opening and warp tunnel sequences. ===== From file: really nice effects, except for the last 5 seconds. Notable for composition
