The setting was chosen as a coming together of the penguin-like appearance of classical musicians and their audience and an ice/water environment which provides the event which brings the performance to an end. The 'music' was written to have a cyclic rhythm so that matching the movements of the pianist with the overall rhythm would be enough, thus avoiding having to match individual finger movements. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: All the modelling was done in C4D. The penguins are modelled with NURBS and animated with bones. The penguin texture is an image map created with POV-Ray. The piano is made from extruded splines. All animation is keyframed except for the piano playing action of the pianist's wings which is scripted. The water in the ice hole is a wind deformer applied to a plane and the caustics are done by moving the ice texture around. The splash is the C4D particle system. The piano part of the soundtrack was written for this animation, the rest of the sounds are public domain sound effects from www.partnersinrhyme.com. The sequenced piano and sound effects were combined in ComputerMuzys and rendered to an uncompressed wav file. The images were rendered uncompressed at 320x240 with antialiasing. TMPGEnc was used to combine the images and sound into the mpg.
