TITLE: Summer, Palms, Sunshine NAME: Benjamin Winter COUNTRY: Germany EMAIL: nanoinverno@web.de WEBPAGE: http://www.Nanoinverno.bl.am TOPIC: Travelling COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. MPGFILE: bwquackl.mpg RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.6 for Windows TOOLS USED: Ulead Video Editor 6.0 (only for creating the mpg-file, I used no effects or something like that) CREATION TIME: more then 10 weeks RENDER TIME: 88h40m for 3081 frames HARDWARE USED: 2GHz, Pentium 4, 765MB RAM ANIMATION DESCRIPTION: This animation shows some migratory birds flying away from the winter/searching summer, palms & sunshine. They fly over europaean countryside, the Alps, Egypt and arive somewhere in the south. VIEWING RECOMMENDATIONS: maybe turn the light down, some things may be even dark, I wanted to render it again but had no more time DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: I created everything in this animation with POV-Ray(also the poster and all textures and pigments). I often used high fields(the landscape, moon, island, mountain, water, pyramid) basing on an average pigment. The birds are made of blobs, apart from the eyes. The most objects I made are macros with many variables to control the object but get random ones, too. For the clouds I used a disc-like surface so they are only 2-D and facing the camera but the texture of the cloud is a 3-D-funktion and I made it possible to use layers, so the camera can move and the clouds look nearly like they would look with media, but that is faster. The terrain is parted into two high filds, a small(closer to the camera) and a big(surrounding the small) -, the big one is ten times bigger then the small(with 5000x5000 units). mostly I took a high-field-resolution of 600*600pixel for both. Maybe the objects and the landscape don't really fit together. First I wanted to do everything comic-like but the terrain-texture is maybe too detailed. The island at the end is the moon from the first scene, it gives the animation a kind of frame. Thats my first time I am taking part in a competition in general. special thanks to my cheese :)
