Raytraced image NEWTON1.JPG by J. Sean Keane, created with POVray. This image may be freely used by anyone for anything. The only copyright I retain is that it not be represented as the work of anyone other than J. Sean Keane. Attribution of the author is not required; just don't claim that it's your work when it's not. This is, admittedly, a pretty simple image. It's main purpose in life is to serve as one frame in an animated sequence to produce a "Newton's Cradle", one of those executive toys used to amusingly waste time. A vase made from Bezier patches is added to provide an interesting reflective surface behind the toy. The real story of this image is told in the animation of the moving balls, which is inappropriate for this contest. Therefore, I refer those people who are interested to the animation section of the POVray FTP site, where I will upload the animation FLC file and explain the calculations of the moving balls in detail. The source code file is NEWTON1.POV, which was produced with the MORAY modeler. This is an unregistered version, as I would like to look at GUM before deciding which to register. I will register one or the other, and encourage others to keep shareware alive by registering programs they use on an ongoing basis.
