The image neohenge.jpg is loosely based on Stonehenge. I didn't do much research into the placement of the stones at the real thing so the placement of the obelisks in the image is most likely wrong. But it still looks pretty neat, so the inaccuracy is easy to overlook. :) I thought this image would be appropriate for the topic "Science" since the original Stonehenge was a very early attempt to study astronomical events. Neohenge is a modernized version that serves no purpose other than entertainment. :) This image doesn't have a huge number of complex objects, but I spent quite a bit of time trying to get the textures to look good. As it turns out, the predefined Jade with a normal of "wrinkles 1.0" and a smaller scale makes very nice fake grass. I used POVRay to generate the image lndscp02.tga that I used for the height field to make the gently rolling hills. The POV source for that is included in the .zip file. Then I used Moray to place the obelisks in a circle and hand modified the POV source to add a sky sphere and make the textures look more "modern". The image took 5 minutes 50 seconds to trace on a parallel virtual machine with 24 Sparc 2 and 10 Sparc 10 slaves running PVMPOVRay with anti-aliasing set at 0.05 and a 'niceness' setting of 10.
