Steinbach screw Files : screw.jpg screw.zip Date: 30 June 1995 Author: Thomas K.Bischoff Email: bit@ten.ch Short: A screw like mathematical surface made of lots of spheres Programs: povray 2.2 , perl script, polyray 1.7 A parametric surface called "Steinbach screw" is depicted. Best on a 24bit display. The formula is : f(u,v) = u cos(v) g(u,v) = u sin(v) h(u,v) = v cos(u) The surface is "undersampled " with lots of spheres. The scene consists of 3402 spheres. The include file 'screw.inc'(168K) is produced with a little perl script (screw > screw.inc) A more conventional rendering of the surface was done with polyray (steinbac.tga, steinbac.pi). The idea is from Clifford Pickovers book "Mazes for the mind". These are my first pictures with povray and polyray.
