This usually refers to multi-billion dollar programs that are funded by the government in order to bring money into specific congressional districts. Big Science sometimes has the side-effect of contributing to human knowledge or improves the technologies that define our way of life. This picture is a metaphorical view of Big Science. The Machine is fed by the ideas sucked from the heads of hapless grad-students, and by a constant flow of dollars from The Great Faucet of Washington. The Machine takes these ingredients, and pumps out Publications: books, journal articles, citations, etc. This picture was not intended to slam science in general. Consider it as my personal tribute to ridiculous programs that existed solely to spread congressional funds (e.g., The Advanced Communication Technologies Satellite, the Nuclear Airplane, and a good chunk of the "Defense" programs that nobody needed - The Osprey, the Captain York, etc.) All models and bitmaps original except the U.S. One Dollar bill, which is copyrighted by the Federal Reserve Board of the United States of America, and the American Flag, which is probably copyrighted as well... All original models and textures created during the month of June, 1995. Source is 1581kb, and requires Strata Studio Pro to read. I'd be happy to send the source to anyone who's interested. Email me for arrangements.
