"The Experiment" - X.JPG ============== ===== - By Andrew Cockburn - andrew@long.demon.co.uk NOTE:- The scene, include and imagemap files are in the file X.ZIP This is because just the scene file itself was 2 Megs! Also in the ZIP file is the Moray .MDL scene. Description - Test-tubes and a bunsen burner on a parquet floor against a tiled wall. 800*600 jpg. Created in Moray and rendered in POV-Ray 2. As stated, this picture was created in Moray. The test-tubes are rotate-sweeps using a standard glass texture from the povray include files. The tiles on the wall are also rotate-sweeps, but only rotated four times to get the square tiles. They have a slight reflection to try and make them look like enamel. The whole scene was enclosed in white walls (behind and to the sides of the camera) to try and eliminate black reflections. Most of the textures are standard from the textures.inc file, although I had to create a few myself. The parquet floor is made up of an imagemap that was originally a file that came with Micrografx Picture Publisher 3.1 - I think it came out really well. The imagemap on the piece of paper was created in Serif PagePlus and exported as a Targa file. CSGs were used extensively on the test-tube rack and base of the bunsen burner. I would have liked to have put a flame on the bunsen, but I didn't know how to make it look realistic enough. On a 33Mhz 486DX with 8 Megs RAM and default anti-aliasing, the scene took 7 hours to render and required a 20 Meg swap file, probably because of the rotate sweeps which had around 40 rotations.
