I was really impressed with the quality of the lighting in this piece.  I think
that a great deal of the pieces are well doen but are either too foggy or too
dark.  This is a crisp clear image well lit without any of that fogginess.  One

Although some of them are rather good, it seems that it's slightly unoriginal.

whereas it seems a competition such as this would be a good chance for people

Every picture is great...  I knew that people were going to ray-trace pictures

14.4 modem and I had to drop it and go over to work to do this!  But, great
competition though!

The display page for voting should have a medium-gray background
rather than bright white.  The bright white background tends to make
the darker or dimmer images look really black by contrast.  A more
neutral background would be fairer.

I found the quantity and quality of the images in the competition to be
astounding. I was worried about voting for images that contained texture maps
as  it can be hard to determine what is textured mapped and what is hard work.
What happened to the artists description of and details about their work? Maybe
a language problem.
Looking forward to seeing the results from the next competition.

Way too many pictures. It's a lot of work to got through them all.        
I don't have any proposal on how to limit the amount, though...

Look people...  You may think you've come up with an original idea for your
trace.
Odds are you haven't.  Try it again, and then toss that idea out too.  When you
think
of the third idea, then run with that one, because the first two have already
been
submitted by 17 other people.  Capic?

It would be nice if we could read the authors' comments, if any, to at least 
see any attributions they may have made for objects, textures, etc.  I believe
that realism is the best goal of raytracing, so I judge on models and
textures.  I would tend to discount for other people's models.

Id have to say that the quality level of these images is incredible.  I
participated in the old competition but there was rarely this level of skill on
so many images.  Its going to be a tough competition!

It is obvious that most people havent used POV. I think the competition
should really be split in two, for those using POV and for any other packages

The excessive use of watches, clocks, and other timepieces as a theme was
distressing.
I was therefore especially impressed with Steven Kazemir's Sunset.  An

original subject and incredible work also.
