TITLE: A Bus with Wings NAME: Bob Hayes COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: bobhayes1@aol.com WEBPAGE: http://members.aol.com/graphicbob/gallery.html TOPIC: Flight COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: abww.jpg ZIPFILE: abww.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.0 for Windows TOOLS USED: Corel Xara, Truespace, WCVT2POV and Photoshop RENDER TIME: About an hour HARDWARE USED: Pentium 133 w/32MB IMAGE DESCRIPTION: At one time air travel was something special. Today it is like taking a bus with wings. Don't get me wrong, I like buses (see my bus web page at http://members.aol.com/busspot), but the glory days of air travel are a thing of the past, unless you fly the Concord. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The bus was modeled by hand. There are lots of CSG objects. It took a long time, and it still is not finished (needs windshield wipers, brake lights, clearence lamps, and more enterior details). The model is based on a New Flyer DLF-40 in terms of basic dimensions. Because the topic is "Flight" I added the wings from a mesh of a Boeing 737. The wings were positioned and scaled through trial and error. The texture map used on the bus was created in Xara and exported as a GIF. I like Xara because it is vector based, so I can easily adjust and change things, and it is able to export an anti aliased image at any resolution. Photoshop was used to adjust the pallet of the map and so I could see which textures to assign to each index.
