TITLE: baddog NAME: Daniel Beeston EMAIL: A.Crawford@adn.gu.edu.au TOPIC: Flight COPYRIGHT: I sumbit to the standard raytracing competition copyright JPGFILE: baddog.jpg ZIPFILE: baddog.zip RENDERER USED: Povray3 (Dos Version) TOOLS USED: Moray 2, Dpaint (for Maps), Display (for conversion) RENDER TIME: 48 Hours (No. Not the length of the movie) HARDWARE USED: 486 DX100 (for building) Pentium 100 (for final Render) IMAGE DESCRIPTION: I was once told by radio personality Mick Molloy (over the radio, not in person) that the reason that dogs put their heads out of car windows is because dogs gain most of their sensory input through smell and it is the canine equivilent to taking drugs. The rapid exposure to so many different smells in a small amount of time causes an effect not unlike those stupid video colages. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The plane itself was modelled in Moray 2. It is mostly primitive shapes, but for the rear of the model which is a bezier patch. Because I only needed a specific view, I skimped a little on the wing tips and the nose of the plane (which could have been done better with a surface of revolution object). I then copied the file and cut all but the cockpit from the model in order to do test renders on the dog itself, which I made with rough scetches, blobs, and numerous test renders. I used Moray to model the teeth and tongue. Although you probably can`t see them, there are globules of drool which are simply blobs coming off the tongue. There is also a halo object (using dust) under the plane to simulate cloud. I then linked all the parts together using includes and rendered it with focal blur on. I have not got much experience with focal blur so the settings are probably a little extreme but lower values seem to give a bit of a crap effect. I guess I just need to fiddle with it a little more.
