JPGFILE: ejncows.jpg ZIPFILE: ejncows.zip RENDERER USED: Povray 3.0 TOOLS USED: PhotoWorks RENDER TIME: 24.5 minutes HARDWARE USED: 486DX IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Planetoid with two "spotted" shuttles bearing toward it from the right. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: For the planetoid, I created two textures (LandArea & OceanArea) for the land and sea, both with a turbulence pattern and a colormap of brown and blue, respectively. I then created three different cloud textures, each with the same colormap but a different pattern (agate, etc., built in to Povray) and combined them in a pigment map for the layered clouds. I then created a simple sphere with each texture (land, sea, clouds) mapped onto it. The texture for the shuttles is a simple white/gray checker with a turbulence of around 0.8. The shuttle itself was made with a cylinder of radius 1 and a surface of revolution object (a cone wouldn't work, no way to get a rounded point) and the fins are mesh objects with only one triangle. The "explosions" on the back of the shuttles are halos, pretty much explained in the Povray documentation... Check the source for exactly how I did it.
