TITLE: iaflight NAME: Ian Armstrong COUNTRY: United Kingdom EMAIL: iarmstrong@cix.compulink.co.uk TOPIC: Flight COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: iaflight.jpg ZIPFILE: iaflight.zip RENDERER USED: Povray 3.0 for Windows TOOLS USED: Gforge, PSP4.1 RENDER TIME: 3h 7m HARDWARE USED: Pentium 120 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A Hawker Hart, one of the prettiest of pre-war biplanes, landing at Netheravon airfield, Wiltshire, England in October 1931. This image contains some truth and some artistic licence: J9941 did actually serve with No. 57 Bomber Squadron of the RAF at Netheravon in 1931, but the buildings are pure guesswork. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Created entirely by hand for Povray3, except for the trees & hills. Mainly CSG with the usual primitives, plus some Bezier patches for the doubly curved areas around the nose and for the main wings. The spinning prop is a thin cylinder with a radial colour map from black to clear (transmit=1). The pilots are a bit of a cop-out, being simply faceless blobs which only look OK from the back. All image maps were drawn in PaintShopPro 4.1. The hills were done as a heightfield using Gforge by John Beale (http://www.best.com/~beale) The trees were done using the Pov3 Tree include file from Paul T.Dawson (http://www.voicenet.com/~ptdawson) 2_
