TITLE: Leaves NAME: Georg Buol COUNTRY: Austria EMAIL: georg.buol@computerhaus.at WEBPAGE: - TOPIC: Flight COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: leaves.jpg RENDERER USED: 3DS 4.0 TOOLS USED: Vistapro, Photoshop 3.0, Jumble.pxp RENDER TIME: about 10 min HARDWARE USED: Pentium 133 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Image depicts leaves drifting through the air in the shape of a giant bird over a mountainous landscape DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I first made the background image by darkening an image (Sunset90.jpg, shiped with 3DS) with Photoshop. Then I used it as a background for the mountainscape I generated in Vistapro with the Fractalize Option. I saved the picture to be used as a background as a .tga. Next I created about 1300 leaf meshes and arranged them in a vague birdlike shape (<110000 faces). Then I used the .pxp routine Jumble on the meshes to produce the kind of feathered appearance in the final picture. When finally rendering the image I used two lights, one spotlight which lightens the leafes from behind and one Omidirectional light which was placed some distance behind the camera (without this light the leaves would have been to dark to be seen). I decided not to include source files, because they are far to big (the mesh file is alone is about 2.2 meg)
