TITLE: Chemical Capers NAME: Raymond Ore COUNTRY: UK EMAIL: rore@raymation.co.uk WEBPAGE: http://www.raymation.co.uk TOPIC: Glass COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: rayslab.jpg ZIPFILE: rayslab.zip RENDERER USED: Povray 3.0 TOOLS USED: Pen and paper RENDER TIME: 73 hours 23 minutes HARDWARE USED: Pentium-100 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: When I first thought about this competition I had in mind to do a church stain glass window but whilst searching for reference I saw a photograph of some bottles with only one in focus, I then thought of glass containers in a lab with different coloured liquids, then this picture was born. I'm not happy with the amount the picture is out of focus, I wanted a lot more but the render time was getting to long plus in the scene file I've got soft shadows defined but again render time prohibited, maybe when I get 400mhz pentium pro with MMX. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Construction? well the bottles are lathe objects but after finishing I discovered a surface of revolution might of been better. The petra dishes are a collection of tubes, disks and a torus CSG'ed to make them solid and the refraction to work properly. Textures are all slightly modified standard textures. I wanted a spiral of glass in there somewhere but my old copy of Spiral and CTDS only works for the old POV syntax, is there an updated version ? Thanks for reading this far. Ray.
