JPGFILE: sndyschl.jpg RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.01 TOOLS USED: POV-Ray for Windows, GUM, My Brain RENDER TIME: HARDWARE USED: 486/80 20 megs IMAGE DESCRIPTION: As we descend into the shallow depths of the Mediterranean, we see a "Sunday school" of fish swim by. They will be harvested and sold to Christians who use them as bumper decorations. One species is shown here. Others do exist. One mythical species that was once believed to exist (much like the unicorn) is just that, a myth. It was believed to have small feet protruding from its underside and had the letters "DARWIN" printed on its side. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I used GUM to model the fish. The rest was done by hand/trial and error. The ground was made by using a height field that was generated by rendering a plane with a wrinkle colormap. I used that image for the height field. The texture is the cork texture in "textures.inc" scaled much smaller with a bump normal added. The shells were generated using a while loop. I used the sample file "Swirbox.pov" as a starting point. Thanks to Dan Farmer for the awesome stone textures in "stones2.inc". I used a semi-transparent plane with bumps and caustics to create the water surface. The trickiest part was getting the atmosphere set just right to appear as though the picture is taken under water. A slight focal blur was added for realism. Thanks for reading this far. This is, by far, the best picture I have made on my own. I hope you enjoy it. Until next time, -Mike Riley
