However daring thieves are not so easily scared away. Guthadradil lay his MAGIC dragon slaying sword on the edge of the well and began to dive for money. He did get a whole bucket full of goldcoins before the upset spirits of the lava pool suddenly threw him out into the pool (instant death). This scene shows the well just after that incident. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This is my first contribution to the IRTC. * The sword: Blade made of triangles. I declared some vectors and from those it was easy to draw triangles. The handle was made of toruses, which were scaled using a sine function. The text is "Guthadradil elwad thaak edragamir fagreth". Made of chrome/gold texture. * The well: Superellipsoids rotated and scaled made up the walls. The water is based on predefined 'Water' texture and then modified. A filter setting of 2 seemed to do a fine trick to lighten the water. A slight green nuance adds a "bathtub" feeling. The wood on the roll is a bump/image map. * The bucket: A difference of two cones and toruses. The handle is also torus, clipped and rotated. Chrome texture. * The rope: Toruses on the wrapped part. Blobs in a sine curve made the drop. It was especially hard to make the half torus and the curve fit together. I defined two vectors and interpolated between them with a sine-curve addition in the y-axis. The texture is a bump map used with a brown pigment. * The coins: Cylinders rotated so that they made a bulging heap. Then duplicated to make the bucket look filled. 4 layers of 100 coins each. * The lava: A granite pattern with a color map. The red color is pushed to "color <15,.4,.2>". I didn't know values of >1.0 were allowed, but it made a nice glow (enhanced ambience) apperance. A bump map was used to make better highlight effects. The steam is ellipses with bozo texture. A ground fog adds to the steam effect. * The mountains: Heightfield with bump/image map, tilted to fit into scene. The sky is a gradient with a turbulence which (by luck) follows the contours of the mountains, enhancing the contrast. The cloud is a halo. Scene lighted by an arealight with a fill-light. Some help of paper and pencil was used.
