===== From sonya_roberts@geocities.com: Good concept, nice image. I like your lamp posts, and your rain technique is a great idea. ===== From ddonegan@fix.net: Like the "feel" this picture has to it. ===== From kazemir@pde.com: Great Image! Great atmosphere! I must say, I was dissapointed when I read that the man was a 2D object, but you incorporated him well. I would have spaced the lamp posts less symetrically, and perhaps added some partially torn posters on the walls. ===== From bill.marrs@pureatria.com: The rain, the wet cobblestones, the person - all done wonderfully! This is a winner! ===== From jaime@ctav.es: Wow! Very artistic result! I suspected something about the man, but the trick is really convincing and very well done. You're a newbie with POV? Wow, you have a great future with it! About the final question in the txt, I don't understand exactly what you are saying. I must re-read your comments file... ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: I like many things about this image. The way the "n" looks a little burnt out. The textures on the street and sidewalk. The overall symmetry. Two things bothered me: the pointy feet on the man, and the small spots of light on the wall behind the streetlights. ===== From wozzeck@club-internet.fr: Very nice picture; nearly nothing to say but the fact that it looks as if the man was about to enter the cinema... which is not what you intended... Your 2D man is perfectly disguised into a 3D man! ===== From bsieker@techfak.uni-bielefeld.de: Really excellent image! One thing: it looks as if the two street lamps cast light on the rain plane! Surely that's not intended! Nice "cheat" with the 2D man with 3D umbrella. ===== From i_emackay@mountains.net.au: One of the better entries. Realistic. I feel it is too symmetrical for a really strong composition. I would try moving the camera a bit. ===== From Martin.Magnusson.7121@student.uu.se: Great! The man really fits in the scene. I like the lighting and the wet street and the whole concept, too. Very good! ===== From arcana@sinbad.net: For a second image, it's a great one! :{) Of course, the 2D man would have gone across a lot better if he were 3D. Good choice for a short-cut of using a plane to imitate rain. The only drawback with doing it this way, instead of say using blobs, is that you lose the subtle effect of depth. I know, you'd think with the resolutions that it wouldn't make a difference. But the human eye can, and does unconsciously, pick up myriad tiny subtleties. Even an odd pixel here or there showing a bit of depth, refraction, reflection, or whatever will lend to the mind's ability to take the rain as real. :{) Again, good effort. Oh, and you were asking about something to make beziers? Check out sPatch. It's a freeware program that exports to POV format. ===== From msfl.bf@fasonet.bf: hehe, good trick with the peasant. And don't worry, the neon looks good. Nice touch with the unlit letter. Good work! ===== From ptdawson@voicenet.com: This is flawless - excellent job! 20-20-20. Great neon! ===== From bobfranke@halcyon.com: The 2D figure and 2D rain work quite well in this image. The sign looks good, I like the burned out letter. One flaw, for me, is the glass in the ticket boot looks too thick. Good job I am look foward to your next entry. ===== From peter@table76.demon.co.uk: I liked the explanation of the 2D Korean with the umbrella :-) . Very effective scene. BTW, do you know about the Usenet group comp.graphics.rendering.raytracing? That's a good place for such questions.
