TITLE: MEEP MEEP NAME: Fabien MOSEN COUNTRY: BELGIUM EMAIL: 101741.541@compuserve.com WEBPAGE: not yet ! TOPIC: ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT JPGFILE: meep.jpg ZIPFILE: meep.zip RENDERER USED: POV 3.02 TOOLS USED: Terrain Maker, Blob Sculptor RENDER TIME: 2 hours HARDWARE USED: 486 DX2 66 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Well, interpretation of topic is simple : art/entertainment > home entertainment > video ! You love watching "road runner", it's your favourite cartoon ! So, you watched this video hundreds and hundreds of times, and here's the result : the tape is completely worn out, colors are gone, edges are fuzzy,... Damn VHS (or Beta, or anything else) ! note : this image is used in my other entry (fmae.jpg), as an image map. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The main idea here is to bring very low quality JPG conversion as main part of the concept ! JPEG quality setting under 15 provide some (bad) video-like aspect. And it's NOT "postprocessing" !!! This time, when I will read the comments about my image, I will know who has read the text file, and who has not ! Technical stuff now... The mountains were done by creating a 512x512 heightfield, then reducing it to 128x128, giving a "sharp" aspect when rendering, like in cartoons (it would be too smooth otherwise...). The little cantilevered rock is a julia (wonderful primitive !) The yellow ground uses a crackle texture to simulate little rocks all over. The road is a blob made of 200 cylinders with a sinus function. Cactuses are blobs. Everything else is "what you think it is" !
