TITLE: The Trumpet NAME: Tom Nowacki COUNTRY: UK EMAIL: ice@teanow4pm.demon.co.uk WEBPAGE: http://www.teanow4pm.demon.co.uk TOPIC: Childhood COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: trumpet.jpg ZIPFILE: trumpet.zip RENDERER USED: Povray 2.2 & Povray 3.02 for Windows TOOLS USED: pocket calculator RENDER TIME: 1 hour 0 minutes 0 seconds (at 1024 x 768 +a.1) HARDWARE USED: Pentium-200 MMX IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The bell is basically a torus minus a torus with a bigger radius, and the left over portion is cropped by a cylinder. Makes sense, no? Good. This next part may not. I gave up playing the trumpet, because my family moved to Germany when I was thirteen. You understand, yes? I didnt think so. My father, a naval architect, informs us there are tiny dents in the surface. You should have reminded Dad that trumpets aren't meant to cross the Atlantic. There is a 2048x1536 dyesub on one of the walls in his study. Strictly off the record, between you and me, Dad, its just no fun playing trumpet by yourself all the time... (I hear you, Son.) I know that, and Im not pointing my finger at you, but why is there no band at the school? Did I mention that it was framed? DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I have only recently downloaded Povray 3.02 for Windows. I haven't had a lot of time to play around with it yet, but I did discover that it can render 2.2 POV files and is much faster. The render time display really did say 0d 01h 00m 00s. The trial runs were lower res output. "The Trumpet" is pure CSG. I considered it a challenge to limit myself to object primitives.
