===== From cmorack@relex.com: Nice. ===== From castlewrks@aol.com: I deducted points on Technical merit because you didn't personally do the cool opera house or bridge. The firework embers look way too big to me. Smaller would have been more in scale. ===== From agage@mines.edu: Okay. First the pros. The image is beautiful, with an excellent effect on the water, excellent modelling of the buildings, and the back skyline. Now for the so-so's -- the fireworks appear too solid, too substantial for falling embers. Also, the fact that they appear in front of the bridge is a bit contrary to my intuition: it feels like they should be further away. Now the cons. The fireworks idea would have been enough for me -- it was well suited to the theme, as fireworks are only done at night, and they were done masterfully well. The people only detract from this image, in my opinion. The skin tones are wrong. The skin and hair have too much of a specular highlight. And the hair looks plastic. This image will probably win, given my experience with the competition, which is a testament to its quality -- but I think that it could have been adequate without forcing people into it. Or, if nothing else, perhaps they could have been facing the fireworks, rather than the camera -- as it is, the arrangement looks unnatural. Granted, Rodin's work may have been done otherwise, but from the back, it still would have worked... ===== From gregj56590@aol.com: When I saw it the textual description of fireworks, I prepared myself for disappointment. Not too bad a job! ===== From jaime@ctav.es: Very nice composition, highly romantic! ===== From Martin.Magnusson.7121@student.uu.se: The bridge, especially its lighting, is very good. I like the purple smoke in the sky a lot, too. The couple's hair look very shiny ===== From jjanger@mail.cspp.edu: I love the lighting on this image. ===== From appel@informatik.tu-muenchen.de: Nice plastic people. ===== From cussat@infobiogen.fr: This image is beautiful but it's too...hum... hollywoodest (sometimes, I love to create words :o) ) for me... This explain my artistic merit mark. I prefer your second submition. ===== From sanna@censa3.polito.it: An excellent 3D model. The only drawback are the stars which are all quite similar ===== From kefriber@online.no: Simly put: "Breathtaking!!!" :-))) ===== From tpeters@eagle.cc.ukans.edu: Did you biuld the brige by hand? ===== From dormammu@erols.com: Very impressive picture. The humans look a bit plastic to me, and I've never actually seen fireworks create a lens flare before.. other than that, it's a very good picture. ===== From bill@apocalypse.org: The water looks realistic, but somehow the scale seems wrong. The people look like china dolls (too reflective?) The sky, opera, and bridge are wonderful! ===== From ethelm@bigfoot.com: Excellent image! ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: Spectacular! Perfect concept. Your liveliest image to date. Very involving. The water reflections are amazingly realistic. Minor nitpick: composition could use a little work, to silhouette the couple's heads more, so they stand out from the background. ===== From uwe.post@gmx.de: wow, that's an idea. ===== From djconnel@flash.net: A nicely done scene! The far shore is nicely done, as is the bridge.... AutoCad seems nicely suited to this sort of modeling! The fireworks seem a bit plastic, and as you didn't do these, they aren't a big "technical" factor. I also like the concept. ===== From econoltd@thezone.net: I really like the effect the fireworks create - good use of lens flare without overdoing it. I especially like the water's surface as well. ===== From r@du13-251.ppp.algonet.se: Good pic, but big deduction for making the characters in Poser! Notable for composition ===== From r@client876c.globalnet.co.uk: Notable for composition ===== From r@d107.ryd.student.liu.se: Great image! However I think the background is too sharp. A little focal blur would be great. Also the people look a little plastic. Notable for composition ===== From r@207.232.193.166: beutiful! Notable for composition, lighting ===== From r@dial-up30.webbernet.net: As art, this image is fantastic. From an artistic standpoint, the only thing I find offputting is the shiny barbie doll texture on the people. As to technique, the Opera House and the bridge are the usual No. 13 masterpieces. The granite skyline was very clever and very effective. The fireworks needed a bit of flare or something on the ends of the streamers. The unadorned discs made the streamers look a bit too much like solid cylinders. a little bit of curve in the streamers would have been nice, too. This scene is an interesting example of varying level of realism in one image. This is almost always, in my opinion, a mistake and ruins many promising images, but in this case, except for the barbie doll thing, it worked well. BTW, it adds to the impact of the image, but the idea of fireworks going off so close to the ground and flammable objects/people makes me cringe!. This comment by clem@dhol.com.
