===== From cyber.mage@mailexcite.com: Ahhh! Too bright! Too bright! ===== From agage@mines.edu: I'll give you points for doing a fairly original take on the subject (as astronomy is a bit more original interpretation of 'night' than yet another moon-over-water image). The atmosphere, however, is very heavy, and washes out a lot of the detail (or at least color). From using atmosphere in POVray, I can say that a little bit goes a long way. It does not take much to get light beams to appear, but a little too much and you can't see anything in the background. It looks like you have two lights pointing at the side of the telescope tower, though I can't tell for certain. If so, they don't really belong, though I suppose they could be justified. ===== From jaime@ctav.es: Hey! Not so bad for a newbie! The effect of visible rays you want, can only be achieved with atmosphere, but it's very hard to set up properly, and depends on the scene dimensions. Another problem is the sky, it's a bit plenty of stars... surely, the astronomers can't decide where to look at! :) ===== From Martin.Magnusson.7121@student.uu.se: The scene looks pretty flat - a few extra faint light sources could have been good, to get more shadows and highlights. ===== From tlyons@gnn.com: the quality of the image is in eye of the observer! NOT THE ARTIST! don't sell youself short if we all got the "image the way we wanted" the first submissions for this round would not be here until 2010!!!! ===== From appel@informatik.tu-muenchen.de: A little bit to much fog for my taste. ===== From dormammu@erols.com: The entire picture looks "whited out" like the contrast is WAAAAY too high. Would've gotten better marks if you didn't have that problem. ===== From ethelm@bigfoot.com: This image would have benefited by more detail and more contrast. ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: A good first entry. Many of the textures look "washed out". I think this is because the ambient level is too high. Try making the ambient value in your textures much lower. Good modelling on the observatory. Where is the horizon? Are we seeing stars below ground level? ===== From djconnel@flash.net: The flatness of the image is interesting.... it is as though it is being viewed through a telescope :), except for that the moon is too small. There is substantial room for detail enhancement on the telescope and the tree, though... It is rather abstract as rendered. ===== From cfusner@enter.net: The thick fog adds an interesting effect (even if unintended). As to haloes, atmosphere, etc, I wouldn't waste a great deal of energy learning them at this point: they are both being phased out in the latest POV (now in limited beta) in favor of a new system: "media" which joins both effects, and which none of us are familiar with yet. So I'd say just hang in there for a little while on that point. ===== From r@dial-up30.webbernet.net: Image has potential, but the stars look more like snow. The mist damages the image. The building is too smooth. This comment by clem@dhol.com.
