But, in a dark area, an abstract sculpture is brought to life by an unattended light. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: STONE TEXTURE : Very simple layered Blue-Gray-White texture, based on photographs of so-called "blue stone". The stone for the cobbles is a little grayer. THE HOUSES : I created a kind of "lego", made of lintels, windows, doorsteps,... I made several models of each element, then I picked up amongst those elements to assemble each house front. Aside of the stones, I can also define a lightning color for each of the nine "rooms", and switch them on and off. The tiles are made with a quilted normal. The bricked side of the center house is made with a height field, itself a Povray layered texture of Bozo and Bricks. THE COBBLESTONES : consist of a repeated grid of 10x10 little stones, each being randomly lift to give some irregularity to the pattern. THE SCULPTURE AND ITS SHADOW : were made by first drawing the "monster" then scanning and mapping it onto a plane; "watching" this plane with a camera placed at the same location than where the spotlight (the one that makes the big shadow) would be. Next, I placed some various objects, randomly, adjusting them by trial-error, until they filled the 2D canvas I sketched. The red eyes are little filtering elements in the sculpture. Some objects ("hand" and "wings") were made with sPatch. MISCELLANEOUS : the nude trees comes from Lparser the coloured sky uses Chris Colefax's wonderful "galaxy.inc" the moon is a mapped sphere with a halo around the streetlamps are nothing special (CSG) the water on the ground is a height field with a watery texture
