I've known the beauty that was hidden under the layer of darkness on a late night (too much camping, I suppose). Once the last ray of daylight drops below the horizon and darkness dominates the sky, it is then that the mischief of every bit of light that comes to life and with it the beautiful creatures that adores it. In my version I've made used of the shine from the Moon, twinkles of the stars and creatures that adores the night (fireflies and little mole) to bring forth the beauty that is only available under a clear digital night sky. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: 1. Before any computing work is done, I first put my ideas and visions onto several sketches. I then picked out the best and redrew a final sketch. 2. I looked through the sketch and mentally organised the sequence of the steps and the method for creating it. My main aim was to simplify a complex scene as much as possible. 3. Moey was created in 3DSR4 to get the basic shape of its body and imported into Moray (this is why the final source file was not included). More details (rest of Moey and the lantern) are created in Moray using simple geometry shapes. 4. Landscape was created using HF-Lab. The bumps that distinct between the grass patch and the path was further enhanced by adding noise in the HF imagemap using Photoshop. 5. The supporting details such as the plants, mushrooms and the tree trunk were then added. The tree trunk was modelled using blobs to obtain a more natural look (this idea was from CHILDHOOD round of IRTC, think the entry was "Phoo" or something). 6. The Moon was created using 2x spheres placed at very far distance. One sphere was for the Moon and the other for the slight glow around it. 7. The most crucial stage of all was creating the right textures and right lighting effect of the image. Textures are created with Photoshop. 8. When the whole scene was almost completed, it was exported and edited to include the stars, fireflies and glow of the lantern. These are done with Galaxy & Lens Effects from Chris Colefax. Further fine adjustments are made until I am happy with it.
