TITLE: The Wednesday night drunk club NAME: Michael J. Kolb COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: m-kolb@uiuc.edu TOPIC: Night COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: mjkwndk.jpg RENDERER USED: mray-0.319 TOOLS USED: RENDER TIME: 1 hour HARDWARE USED: Intel Pentium 75MHz running Linux 2.0.33 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Every Wednesday night, a bunch of us go down to Murphy's to have a few pints. This is where I learned about Black & Tans, Guinness floating on top of Bass. Goodbye, Illinois. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This is demo5 for a general purpose raytracer I've been writing in C++ for my CS 319 graphics course. The project was due yesterday, and will be demo'ed next week for the prof. The source code will probably be released shortly after that. Incidentally, yes, the glass on the left is supposed to look like that. =) Like I said, it's Guinness (black with white frothy head) floating on top of Bass (rich tan). The image isn't all that impressive graphically, and probably won't win. But I'm proud of it because, like I said, I wrote the raytracer. =) Modelling was done by hand and programmed into demo5.cc (a C++ source code file). This file was compiled and linked with my raytracing library (mray), and allowed to execute on my Linux box. The output (TARGA) was converted to JPEG format using xv. Watch comp.graphics.rendering.raytracing in the near future if you want a copy of libmray. Work on it will continue after I graduate next month. meekay
