JPGFILE: moth.jpg ZIPFILE: moth.zip RENDERER USED: povray for Windows 3.02 TOOLS USED: Moray for Windows 3.0 RENDER TIME: About 16 hours HARDWARE USED: Cyrix 6x86 PR155 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A common night scene balances the fragile moth with the destructive flame. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This is the first full scene I have done and the first time I used the newly released Moray for Windows. This new version has plenty of new tools I tried to incorporate into the image. The glass is a spline object rotated, the brass tubes are constructed using cylinders for the straight parts and bezier patches for the curved areas. The flame is a rotated spline object with 5 lights to give it brightness. The wings of the moth are spline objects with a very small height to keep them thin. The body of the moths are rotated spline objects. My name and date in the lower right hand corner were made using Moray's text editor which is now incorporated into the program. .... There is still a lot of work that can be done on this image, I got bogged down with taxes (dam that IRS) and never got to making the final improvements. The wings of the moth are not quite right, the left is different from the right. Also the flame needs some work to make it look more genuine. The glass seems solid (although it isn't) and all attempts to improve this aspect really bogged down the computer. It had been suggested to me to add a background, like bushes or trees, but everything I tried seemed to take away from the "night" theme.
