JPGFILE: 003insec.jpg ZIPFILE: 003insec.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.02 for Windows 95 TOOLS USED: 3D Studio Max, 3DWin for converting *.dxf to *.pov, PhotoShop for converting *.tga to *.jpg, Terrain Maker to create the height field. RENDER TIME: Little less than 25 minutes HARDWARE USED: PC AMD K6 233MHz MMX, 64Mb RAM, Windows 95 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: hmm... DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Notes: - The file dxfexp.inc is not included in the source zip file because of space problems, it is more than 6Mb, same story for map.gif that is more than 300Kb. - The final image was rendered at 800x600 no AA because I tried with AA 0.3 and AA 0.1 and POV-Ray would crash down at the same point of the rendering. I also tried to change the glass textures to simple pigments but using the AA it would still crash at the same line of the rendering. I guess is a sort of bug. The insect is a modification of a model in 3D Studio Max, then exported to *.dxf and with 3DWin converted to an *.inc file, unfortunately the head of the insect and the back turned out as one object so I had to find a way to give them separate colors using only one texture, so I gave it a checker pigment and then made the middle point to fall between the head and the back part, then gave to the two separate parts the colors that I wanted. The body and the legs of the insect are a simple black pigment with some reflection. The wings are a common glass texture but without reflection, the veins in them are the same texture but with reflection. The branch is a blob object made of 3 cylinders with a stone texture that looks great as bark, then I added a bump normal to make it rough. The mountains are made with an height field generated with Terrain Maker, the texture is a modified standard stone texture with a bump normal applied to it to make them a little less smooth and a little more "rocky". By the way I didn't like too much the fog effect that looks too "solid" as it go to the horizon and the sky looks not very real for color and clouds shape. That's all, this is my 2nd "real" image created using POV-Ray exept words, logos and other little things that I usually need to do for work.
