===== From spanky@wpi.edu: This scene is really good, I love the color of the water and the shape and texture of the boulders. ===== From rotht@televar.com: Breathtaking... ===== From mikko.oksalahti@dosetek.varian.com: Very close to being excellent but it lacks something. ===== From scooby@pld.com: Beautiful image. Tree method very creative and realistic. ===== From d97ta@efd.lth.se: very well executed image, i love the atmosphere. the tree is one of the most realistic in this round (as of yet... still have a few images left) the grassy splotches on the far side seem a bit out of place... ===== From marc_w@ncx.com: my vote for first place! absolutely beautiful!!!!! ===== From ulf.schreiber@gmx.net: Brilliant plants! I especially like the way the leaves hang down, and the stem. The height field work in the background also deserves applause. The simple normal-map water (I think?) falls far behind the rest of the scene. But although it is subjectively the least realistic looking thing in it the same kind of water gives many other scenes that extra realism they need! ===== From manorton@tcnet.net: Very nice. Your water texture is realy great, and that tree is fantastick. ===== From simon.davis@altavista.net: Really nicely rendered scene, I like the slight haziness of the background. ===== From buck@cs.byu.edu: Beautiful! The water, the textures of the rocks, the trees, they're all wonderfully done. The trees are perhaps the best I've seen done in POVRay yet. The birds are a great artistic touch. The island in the background is nice, too, but the trees look too much like a green height-field. Some kind of blur would work great with them, I think, to give them less form and more "feeling." ===== From jaime@ctav.es: Wonderful! Specially the water texture. Very peaceful. But (the only one) is the rocks shape, a bit strange, too rounded, perhaps. ===== From djconnel@flash.net: Nicely done!!!! A nice combination of natural elements with skillful composition makes this image very effective. It's a worthy contender for the overall. The tree is especially skillfully done. ===== From bill@apocalypse.org: Excellent color tones, soft appealing. The plesant realism of this image is impressive. That's that best raytraced tree I've ever seen. What's that odd reflection on the closest rock? ===== From ethelm@bigfoot.com: Excellent! ===== From 101741.541@compuserve.com: Good freshness, here. Quietness is around. ===== From fisher2@pobox.upenn.edu: Notable for compisition. Nice tree! ===== From arcana@sinbad.net: The rocks in the foreground look great, but may need just a touch more work on the texturing. I would have liked to have seen a bit of extra rippling in the water at the edge of the rocks. Some of the shading on the hillside on the far side if the lake looks a bit off. Could be the light fog you set up. The birds really add a finishing touch to a wonderful image. :{) ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: Vivid, realistic, and beautiful. As soon as I saw the image, I thought of Ontario. Quite a "natural" image. Serene and crystal clear. The tree is excellent. The morning (evening?) lighting is suberb, especially in the hazy background. I even like the sky. Less is more. Very well done. Keep up the good work, and get yourself a Pentium II as soon as possible... ===== From no13@ozemail.com.au: Outstanding effort. ===== From r@199.45.245.103: Wow. This one is *nice*. The tree is one of the best I've seen. I spend 2 weeks in Georgian Bay every summer, and I recognize it here. You really have captured the essence of it. I love it. You could try a less regular normal function, and the rocks are not quite 100% there, but otherwise... Excellent work. Notable for modelling, composition
