===== From scooby@pld.com: Fantastic! Only way it could be improved is too have some imperfections in the textures to increase realism. Truly outstanding job! ===== From Sean_Hamilton@amrcorp.com: Oh, for hands that look like hands... I like the idea, and the story! And where can I get one? ===== From nx@chez.com: Poor, poor Eiffel Tower (French opinion) ! Objects are REALLY amazing, scene is original, details make realism ("random" cutain rod). Great ! ===== From gmol@my-dejanews.com: Very creative! I like this one a lot! ===== From guilhem.christol@hol.fr: What imagination ! Great ! impressive... ===== From ewgr@abaddon.globalnet.co.uk: Well this is quite excellent but I am having trouble grasping the "element" connection despite your dissertation. Very good image. ===== From bobfranke@halcyon.com: Very ambitious, great modeling. The Eiffel tower alone would make a great image. My thought for improvement is to turn up the anti-aliasing or would that destroy the detail in the upper part of the Eiffel tower? ===== From arcana@sinbad.net: The one thing that stuck out for me, more than anything else, was the lack of textural detail on the hand jostling the coffee cup. It's a great image, with a lot of reflections. I got dizzy trying to map track them all. ===== From ethelm@bigfoot.com: Very imaginative and crisp. The accompanying novelette entertaining. ===== From djconnel@flash.net: Incroyable! C'est magnifique! Seriously, this is one of the most bizarre images I have seen. Yet the rendition of incommensurate scales is very deftly handled. The modeling is in general outstanding. Some specifics: glasses : awesome! This alone is a POV masterpiece. cup o'joe, sugar cubes, micromaching device, sugar crystals, cafe window, curtains, cafe table, cafe chair, Eiffel Tower : These are all expertly modeled. Most impressive.... A few comments : * There relative depth of the robot relative to the tower isn't really well defined. It looks a bit like those 50's movies where the actor stands close to the camera to appear to be a giant. Some interaction or overlap would be nice to establish depth. * The robot's fist has moved approx 7x as far as the fragments it hit.... I would expect typical collision physics would imply a bit more recoil on the fragments. * There are regions of notable starkness : the city seems virtually empty except for the tower. And the region to the lower left seems rather strikingly empty. Perhaps my brain expects to see the human there. * 2/2 lefties :) ? (I can't tell on the micro-robot) Still, this is an amazing piece of work, and clearly a worthy winner. ===== From bill@apocalypse.org: Nanotech was a good concept, and I like the way you added the glassed to use as a magnifying glass (clever). I have this knee-jerk negative reaction to mega-robots though, and the hand holding the coffee cup looks like CSG cylinders, it could be smoother. ===== From wozzeck@club-internet.fr: Really nice! However, as a question of taste, I don't like the metal used for the robot, which makes it hard to understand at first sight. ===== From ekennedy@voyager.net: Very creative thinking! ===== From 101741.541@compuserve.com: Imaginative concept, great (structural detail speaking) Eiffel Tower. Good attention to every detail (screw in the chair). I also love the "POV-Ray cafe" writing on the glass, it's always good to put some tribute to our beloved raytracer. Maybe some textures (table, cup) are too reflective ? (note : in a Paris' cafe, you'll NEVER get a big coffee cup like that, only small ones!) ===== From r@gc-usr7.pld.com: Wow! A modelling masterpiece! Notable for originality, composition, modelling ===== From r@client8788.globalnet.co.uk: Notable for modelling ===== From r@cust193.webbernet.net: Brilliant concept and great attention to detail. To be honest, I found your last two entries to be below your abilities, and I am very pleased to find you back in form. Great modelling on the Eiffel tower. Why do people want to pick on Gustave's beautiful eyesore? It took me a moment to pick up on the giant robot, even seeing the tower destroyed. I guess my intuition wants such a thing to be more boldly colored. I really love the curtains . Bolting the frame to the back of the seat is a nice touch, and the reflections on the glasses and table add a lot. This comment by clem@dhol.com
