I like the 'modern alchemy' idea but I felt the entire scene to be sterile.
Technically perfect objects, but aesthetically bland.  I found myself trying
to figure out what was printed on the computer screen rather than what was
actually happening. I really like the oscilliscope!

Lots and lots of precise detail.  Light source seems to be directly next to the
camera, giving the impression of a flash photograph.  Very good effort.

Wow -- I am impressed that 3DS is able to render this excellent image
on a 486 in 7 minutes!

This is a very nicely done piece of work!  It addresses the theme
extremely well, from the overall theme (gold synthesis) to the
atomic representation and the periodic table, to the classical
elements (water, fire, air, and earth).

A few comments:

1. The flame needs some work -- it appears too solid
2. The book needs some work -- planar segments are
    visible.
3. The water appears to be blue syrup -- you might try
    a more transparent + reflective + refractive material.

Still, this one is quite good!  The lab scene is excellently
assembled, with a wonderful dose of detail.
