The table pattern has good colors, but has too intense graining.  Is it stone? 
Or wood?
Funny that two of the spheres seem to cast neither light nor shadows.
Candle is a bit dim -- it's not bright enough to (even slightly) illuminate the
back wall.
A slightly higher camera viewpoint would keep the scene from being so linear,
flat.

This image is very promising!!! (and not late, it appears).

A few comments :
* The candle could use a bit more work -- the flame needs some
  turbulence, and you should play with the highlights
  make regions of melted wax.

* The table texture should be finer.

* The background would be more effective if it was more
   interesting.

Still, the concept is quite good!

The element textures are quite nice, as is the inkwell, but the table, candle
and quill need work.  Strangely, the unnatural fire in a bubble looks more
realistic than the candle flame.  The flat gray background hurts the image.
