TITLE: Mans control of the elements? NAME: Sim. COUNTRY: England EMAIL: etlsnsn@etl.ericsson.se WEBPAGE: - TOPIC: Elements COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: manel.jpg RENDERER USED: POV Ray 3.0 TOOLS USED: Moray Paint Shop Pro 5.0( ShareWare ) Poseur 2 ( ShareWare ) 3DWIN RENDER TIME: Just under 24 hours. HARDWARE USED: Cyrix 200 MMX 64 Meg SDRAM TX3 Motherboard S3 Graphics Card ( 4 Meg ) IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Use of 5 elements. Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Gold. The Gold 'shackles' controlling man as he tries to control the elements. The Kanji on each figure translate ( from left to right ) as 'Ground', 'Wind' 'Fire' and 'Water'. The branding of each figure could be interpretted as the struggle that man has with the natural elements, yet ultimately failing, as man is at their mercy, like a slave to their mercy. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: All object manipulation/placement was executed in Moray. The floor was created first and then the lights were added, to get a general feel for the interaction of colour. Poseur was used to create the figure, which was then saved as a DXF file. This was converted using 3DWIN and imported into Moray. The Water figure contains a smaller figure within itself, which allowed for good caustic effects with the outer water texture and the surface below. A CSG was created for each of the 4 elements, Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. The figures were added along with the glass coffins and then the shackles. The coffins need to be a little clearer. The kanji symbols were hand drawn in PSP 5.0 then used as the input to a seperate height field, in Moray. Being very new to Rendering ( < 2 months ) I'm still experimenting with Moray and POV Ray. I'm very excited about the power that both provide and prefer to keep things as simple as possible as I slowy learn more techniques. I had great difficulty in creating a realistic fire texture. The tutorials I found on Halo fire didn't have the desired effect, I resorted to a few layers but with the height of the camera and the object size, it didn't turn out as I expected. I'm pleased with the overall effect and look forward to learning and continuing to experiment. /Sim.
