===== From jerry@hoboes.com: Well, what I think is that your mountain is an awfully bright green. But good use of fog. ===== From Sean_Hamilton@amrcorp.com: I think its a good start. Keep trying new things and learning from everybody you can! ===== From pmccombs@hotmail.com: Not bad for a starter. Check out other images to get ideas. ===== From vogelap@email.uc.edu: Too foggy. ===== From tlyons@gnn.com: good start ===== From paul.flanzy@jouy.inra.fr: Just go on with POvray ===== From bsieker@techfak.uni-bielefeld.de: I think you overdid it with the fog intensity, does not leave any detail recognizable. Is that a boat? I also wonder is there is a lightsource or if it is only ambient lighting... ===== From johnson@pharmacy.arizona.edu: Too foggy. ===== From jaime@ctav.es: Well, you asked! ;) : A bit too foggy, perhaps to disimulate lack of resolution in hf? I recommend to not use "smooth" inside pov, but in a bitmap paint program over a bigger copy of the hf. Water is not very recognizable, due to lack of some waves and reflections. ===== From Varyk@aol.com: I think it looks very nice. This contest is a very good way to get const= ructive feedback. You might get more helpful comments if you flesh out y= our .txt file (heightfield for hill, I used such-and-such technique for t= he boat) people can make more specific suggestions that way. Very simple, effective, realistic image. ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: Well, I think the scene looks murky. Does it have a heavy fog? The small object adds interest, but what is it -- a boat that is partly filled with water? You might want to turn it a little more sideways to the camera. Mountain could use a more complex texture -- how about a gradient that varies from green at the lower elevations to grey at higher elevations? See "Land4" in this competition for an example. ===== From Martial@Biosys.net: Think to the transparency and reflection; normal bumps; and look at the other for idea; persever and persit to read again the help '-) ===== From chipr@niestu.com: Not a terrible image, but not a great one either. Not too bad for a beginner. Relies too heavily on the fog to cover for lack of detail, kinda like a photograph of Elizabeth Taylor. I had the feeling that this would make a good setting for a scene, but the objects in the scene were missing. You have a grasp of most of the fundamentals, now start working on adding objects to the scene and improving the detail. More explanation in the text would be nice, too.
