TITLE: Desert Rain NAME: Phillip L. Easton COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: east103@dialaccess.com TOPIC: Water COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: plemv8.jpg RENDERER USED: Bryce 2 TOOLS USED: Paint Shop Pro 5 RENDER TIME: 3 hrs and 10 min. HARDWARE USED: AMD K6 255/75 MHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: I wanted to represent water without water being the dominant portion of the picture. Hence I was trying to avoid showing a body of water such as a lake, a pond, water in a glass, etc. This picture represents the life giving properties and the natural cycle of water. The cracked earth represents evaporation. The rain and clouds signify the condensation of water. The grass demonstrates nature's ability to adapt, which enables the plants to survive in a location that normally contains very little water. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I used separate terrain fields to represent the towers, ground, and mountains. The rock in the foreground is a terrain on its side with another terrain on top. Textures were standard 3-D textures in Bryce 2, which were adjusted to produce the desired effect using the controls in Bryce 2. The cracked earth is a separate terrain. The idea for this came from Chris Casady's site at http://www.tilenut.com/yomama/bryce/Tutor %20HQ.html. The grass is 2D pics that I made in Paint Shop Pro. Several 2D planes were intersected to create a 3-dimensional plant. The clouds are sphere objects with transparent cloud textures. The rain is made up of several 2D planes. The rain texture was created in Paint Shop Pro 5 and then mapped onto the rain planes.
