TITLE: Jovian Moons NAME: Harald Schoenknecht COUNTRY: Austria (Oesterreich) EMAIL: harrdy@teleweb.at WEBPAGE: harrdy.ml.org TOPIC: First Encounter (Still) COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: 2010.jpg RENDERER USED: povray 3.1 TOOLS USED: Paint Shop Pro, L-System (http://www.thinkpiece.com), HF-Lab (http://www.best.com/~beale), Galaxy "Plug In" (http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lakes/1434) RENDER TIME: ~5hrs HARDWARE USED: AMD233 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The picture shows the Jovian Moon Europa. There is quite a difference between my picture and the idea in "Odyssee 2010" by A.C.Clarke. In 2010 the monolith changes Jupiter to a second sun. My picture shows the main theme somehow "softer". Instead of destroying the planet the monolith emits energy and after the ice on Europe is melted the first life forms are "meeting" the monolith to be "boosted" forward. From a simple algea the first "higher" plant is mutated. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I started the picture with the water. The last topic - as you surely remember - was "Water". The picture never got good enough to be contributed. A version of this early image is located on my homepage. The actual topic gave me the chance to "build" a little longer and so I changed the theme to 2010. I used HF-Lab for the heighfield and an L-System for the plant (Spiral04). The image maps for Jupiter and IO came from JPL (if you are looking for good maps you may want to start at http://www.lancs.ac.uk/postgrad/thomasc1/render/maps.htm) and I used a "Plug In" for the starry sky (by Chris Colefax at ccolefax@geocities.com). After some attempts with "radiation" I used an area light for the reflected light of Jupiter. The ZIP File is relatively big (7.5MB) but you can DL it at http://harrdy.ml.org/2010.zip if you like to.
