Very nice modeling.  The rose and mantis are really 
good, although the eyes seem a bit big and not insect-
like. I find the background distracting.  I think modeling 
some simple plants and using focal blur would be better.

It took me a while to find the insect. Good multiple-level interpretation of
"First Encounter".

The rose and Mantis are both excellent!  The use of 
color and
finish are both highly effective.  It has a great deal of 
presence.

The surrounding scene is quite abstract... very strange.  
This is a bit
heavy on the use of the PSP image, and isn't really 3d.  
Also, I don't
feel the image really indicates the topic.  It is 
enormously effective
as a view of a mantis on a rose, but I see no first 
encounter here.

Still, nicely done piece of work!

Buen comienzo con SPatch! La rosa esta muy bien, nada "sintetica". La mayoria
de
las que he visto parecen de plastico, pero esta es bastante "natural". Si, ya
se que la textura del petalo se resiste... (yo tambien he intentado hacer
flores,
pero mejor no sigamos hablando... :) La mantis (que SI se llama Religiosa),
esta
tambien bastante bien, ya que se reconoce perfectamente (no como el otro
insecto,
como tu dices, que cuesta de ver por su posicion). La imagen de fondo es rara,
inidentificable, pero le da un toque extra_o que no esta mal. Buen trabajo!
