The kitty is not too bad.  The other two in the 
competition are better, but they used Poser.  The 
pattern for the fur works well, but fuzzy fur would be 
nice.  Animals are hard to do, I admire your effort.

One obvious area for improvement is in the texture for 
the dresser and table.  The texture is applied to the 
entire object instead of the individual pieces of wood.  
Also the grain needs to be rotated separately for each 
piece.  This is a good place to experiment with random 
numbers for some of the values in the texture.

It's a very cute idea!  The only comment I think I can 
make as far as improvement goes regards the textures.  
The kitten looks slightly blue, and the wood textures 
need more turbulence.  Other than that, it's a nice image.

I wish there were a few other objects on top of the dresser.
Nice wall texture and kitty modelling.  The window/outdoors is a good addition.
Drawer handles seem awfully medieval, robust.  Wood textures need a little
work.
The wall is blank.  It needs a clock/poster, or else point the camera more
towards the cat.

The kitten looks a lot better from the front than from the rear - there's
something in the proportions, and he also seems to lack some of the features
usually found in the rear part of a cat, a condition which might cause severe
problems with the digestive process. I've made a kitten out of blobs myself,
and even after days of studying feline anatomy books, as well as actual cats
whenever they chose to be around, it still a reasonable approximation at best.
I'd suggest texturing the bodyparts independently if you're trying for a tabby
cat - the only cat coloring (apart from the obvious) I could realistically
create with a single povray texture is tortoise, and even that requires some
care. Of the rest of the scene, the mirror looks nice but the walls and the
furniture are rather featureless. Also, the dresser is suffering badly from the
"bloody huge tree" effect.
