JPGFILE: exhibit.jpg ZIPFILE: exhibit.zip RENDERER USED: Pov-Ray 3.0 for Windows TOOLS USED: Moray 3.01 for Windows; Paintshop Pro 5 for adding text and for JPEG-Compression RENDER TIME: about 5 hours HARDWARE USED: P90, 40MB RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Welcome to the Human Museum of Aeronautics and Space Flight. You see an exhibit containing artifacts from the First Encounter of Humans and an alien race named the Veetok. The display case contains a number of artifacts used at that time, both Human and Veetokal. The ship around the corner is a scale replica of the Veetok crusier "Uneven Curiosity". The pictue of their home planet Grao. The helmet belonged to the Captain of the "FES Daedulus", Illya Julia Lumini. The dent on the top from a previous misson unrelated to the encounter. The objects on the shelf are Veetokal in origin, as is the prayer hanging. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The helmet is almost entirely a sPatch object, with some POV primitives through in for good measure. The zigzaggy thing is also a sPatch object. The red felt ropes themselves are sPatch objects, while the caps are POV primitives. The text is a gif of White letter on Black background, and turned into a bumpmap. Trivia Note: The other "language" on the plaque is actually the Interlac font used in the old Legion of Superheroes comics. I wanted a strange translation and figured I would have to make a graphic one - a little surfing on the web, though, and I found Interlac as a Windows and Mac font. Thanks to Kashif Husain for making it. Everything is is simple POV primitives and CSGs. the most difficult thing was coming up with "realistic" alien objects that looked functional and not dopey. The lighting involves 9 spot lights and 2 point lights. I have never used that many lights in an image before it took alot of tweaking to try and get everything lit properly without washing out something else.
