TITLE: Hello, World! NAME: Jeremy Gregoire COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: Jeremy.D.Gregoire@westgroup.com WEBPAGE: nope. I had one for awhile, but never maintained it. TOPIC: First Encounter COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: nest.jpg ZIPFILE: nest.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray for Windows 3.02 TOOLS USED: Moray for Windows (Shareware), Windows Paint to add title and name RENDER TIME: About nine minutes @ 800x600 HARDWARE USED: Pentium II-300 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A little bird cracks out of his shell, and begins his first encounter with the real world. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I used the shareware version of Moray to place some rough models (i.e. torus for the nest) in the scene to give me an idea of how the final objects would look in comparison to each other, then edited the exported file to put in the final objects. The nest is a while loop that randomly places a "twig" down changing the size and rotation of the "twig" as it goes. A similar loop was used to put the "hay" down inside the nest. I threw in some fog to obscure the incomplete backdrop. The pine needle leaves are another while loop, where the needles are rotated around a cone, and scaled to get smaller as they move up the leaf. Finally, I named the image "Hello, World!" since not only does the bird greet the world for the first time, but this is my first submission to the IRTC. Enjoy!
