===== From denny1@home.com: Wow, thats a great one. The violins and bass, of course, are the dominant elements of the scene and are particularly well done. The open book of music is also very nice. But is the neck of the bass slightly intersecting the tree? The grass texture looks good in the distance, but in the immediate foreground it looks flat. There are a few object placement nits, in addition to the bass and tree. The bananna on the left appears to be floating slightly above the blanket, which the bananna on the right intersects the blanket about halfway in its depth. The far lens of the sunglasses intersects with the page of music it is sitting on. The flowers on the right side of the scene are nice. ===== From gregj56590@aol.com: Delightful theme, delightful characters. The thing about 3DS Max is that all images made with it should be this good, if it's that expensive. ===== From Alain.Culos@bigfoot.com: A very good submission indeed. How could I comment more on that one ? Oh well, when we look for details there is always something : the ground looks a bit flat. Close up grass would need to stick out, in the distance, the ground would be better if it was tweaked a bit up and down here and there. One can barely see that flaw but the biggest character has its strings angled, need some more subdivisions for rendering this one in order to make it look really curved. I like the tree (close up) but it is somewhat odd. The bananas are not ripe ! ===== From shipbrk@gate.net: Ha! Great concept! Nice textures, too. ===== From rguillard@claranet.fr: I've already seen your pic on the Vue d'Esprit Forum and it still remains a great composition. Great modelling work on the violin, good choice of textures... Nice surrealistic scene. ===== From houston.graphics@iname.com: Love the idea and the image, it reminds me of Dali. The texture on the tree looks a little odd. The grass plain looks too barren it could have used something, maybe a couple more trees. ===== From ethelm@bigfoot.com: A very surreal and attractive image .Excellent composition , color and atmosphere . ===== From gshaw@monotix.co.za: Now those are instruments with personality. The bark of the tree looks wrong, not totally sure why. The wine glasses also look a little too reflective. Strings on violin not taut. Otherwise very nice. ===== From clem@dhol.com: Really excellent. The finish on the instruments is fantastic, as is the orange. The rocks and flowers are very good. The sheet music is a nice touch. The drop cloth is well done. The tree bark is the only significant flaw. It looks like pieces badly fitted together. The only other minor complaint is that the strings are kinked. It looks like you did them as a small number of csg cylinders rather than as a spline or other smooth structure. You did a very good job of using pose to convey expression. ===== From kniazfam@ohio.net: Great idea! I play the violin, and I agree with you that each violin has its own personality. I catch myself thinking that its alive. Just like your picture. On the whole, I really like the picture, but there are a few things needing improvement. The chello has melted into the tree in some places. The sunglasses also have gone into the sheet music. The tree also could use some improvement. Finally, the instruments themselves are great except they don't bend in a sweeping curve; it's more like a bunch of straight lines forming a curve. Fairly noticable on the strings. But the total effect is great. Good job! ===== From mar@physics.usyd.edu.au: Inspired, absolutely inspired! Very funny, and the "newspaper" is priceless. What's more, the execution is brilliant... lovely instrument shapes and textures. Good detail on the plants and picnic items. Some objects in the middle ground instead of featureless grass would help the scene fill out, but otherwise close to perfect. ===== From jull43@ij.net: Very impressive. Not only the violins but the attention to detail. The little extras thrown in such as the reading glasses with corrective lens that add to the scene's completeness and complexity. ===== From r@209.155.62.50: and a good laugh was had by all. Notable for lighting, originality, textures, modelling, composition
