TITLE: The first journey to India the other way...? NAME: Emil Roijer COUNTRY: Sweden EMAIL: emil.roijer@sydpost.nu WEBPAGE: --- TOPIC: History COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: columbo.jpg ZIPFILE: columbo.zip RENDERER USED: Povray 3.1 TOOLS USED: Moray 3.1, Terrain Maker RENDER TIME: 22 minutes HARDWARE USED: PII-350 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: My picture describes the moment when Columbus started his unsuccessful journey to India. I really hoped you should see that yourself! Anyway, I've been working a lot with boats and this one is no exception. In my first vision of this picture, the boat was closer to the camera, but then I realized I didn't have the time to do all the details. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The entire picture is made in Moray, with CSG-objects. There is one exception, though: The mountain. This is a hightfield, made in Terrain Maker. The houses are mostly big cubes with a fancy texture. But one exception is made: The big house behind the fountain. This one's made to be big and luxury (for it's time, of course) and it also has the best view of the ocean. All the textures has some sort of bumps attached to it, wich make the picture more alive. The fountain is made of a rotatesweep, and the water is thoruses with a almost white texture. I had some troubles with this object, because it took more than an hour to render it (800x600 picture, with the fountain as the only object)! Thank God it's far away! The ship is made of cylinders and spheres. That's mostly because it's not so close (if I had it closer, I would have to do the ship in sPatch, or something like that). And another big problem: The water around the boat! The water it self wasn't so hard. Two good looking colours and a granitbump sized up to X-50 and Y-50. But around the boat! I never found any way to make it look good, so I dropped it. Hope you don't mind... The sky is a very big sphere wich surounds all the other objects.
